The Coleman Docks were located in the heart of the waterfront. Directly behind the docks were the railyards which ran along the waterfront. This part of the harbor was the home of what was known as the Mosquito Fleet. These were steam ferries and excursion boats that serviced Puget Sound in the early part of the 20th Century. These boats were known as the Mosquito Fleet because it was said of them that these little white steam boats were as numerous as the mosquitos that plagued the inlets and rils that made up the shoreline of the Sound.
