This work is dedicated to those that had the opportunity to leave the Big Easy before the surging waters covered the land....Many fled to Baton Rogue and to cities in other states such as Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma City, and anywhere that they could find shelter from the hand of death that touched so many of their family and friends left behind in New Orleans....By the providence of God, these that left before it was too late to escape, only found safety with a sorrowful realization that they had been spared...while a great multitude of people, family, friends, and acquaintances were not so fortunate. The survivors were torn between joy at being alive and heartbreak because they realized their very lives were now a gift to them. They received a reprieve, a gift of special favor of which they knew they were not worthy of....
