Bruce Lee

An old pencil drawing I did. This may have been when I was still in junior high.

This took me between 2 to 4 hours, I did it so long ago I really can't remember. My full color version of Bruce took about 8 hours. Remember this is a scan so it's not quite as good of quality as the original, so some detail/highlights may have been lost. I use different brands of pencils as I really have no preference, but the paper I use is Bristol, heavy about 148Lb, the one that says excellent for pencil. The main thing to do to get dark liens with pencils is to sharpen them with an exacto knife or something similar. That way, you can press really hard and not break the lead. I use 2h, hb, and 3b frequently, sometimes 6b.

Drew, A great depiction of a legendary icon and a personal hero for myself. Seeing your Bruce Lee work in your portfolio makes me want to try my hand at him. The skin tones and clothes wrinkles work well. The nunchaku shadow on his clothes gives great perspective. Hands are awesome. The foliage is simple but gives the viewer enough visual cues on its texture. Very good. If there was a criticism I have to make to balance the praise it would be not enough lightness or white on the wall behind him. It's there but compared to Bruce's image, it looks like the same tone. Hope you don't mind and leave comments as well. Questions if you don't mind: How long did this take and what pencil maker do you use to get those dark lines? Thanks.
