Every farm once had a woodlot that provided fuel for heating the home, cookstove and smokehouse; as well as timber for construction, shingles, and fence posts. If the lot contained hardwoods such as Sugar Maples they could be tapped for the making of syrup while Hickory, and Walnut provided nuts for baking.
