NO TIME FOR FLOWERS

The painting is titled "No Time For Flowers." My wife, Leigh took a fantastic photograph of this massive buffalo bull plodding through the famous Hayden Valley of Yellowstone last September. I located another shot of Hayden Valley that I liked and put the bull into it.

The piece is 16" x 20" overall. It is painted in acrylics on a 1/8" thick Masonite, Ampersand "Claybord." It has a white, slightly textured Gesso covered clay surface. It is pH Neutral and acid-free. A fantastic surface to work on. This is the same board that I did my painting of "Alan Baker As Cody" on. One other advantage of the Masonite "Claybord" over canvas is that is very durable and a lot easier and cheaper to ship.

I want to say also that I am being pressured into going the route of "full color." Not that there is a single person holding a "proverbial gun" to my head, but this is something I must do if I ever want to be recognized in the field of "Western Art." So after not laying acrylics to board since 1971 in art school, this is my second attempt in 34 years. I dislike remembering how to do anything after such a long time and don't give me that old crap of, "It's like riding a bicycle." It's not!

My main objective here is that I want to hang with the "greats" in the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and "the" gallery of all Western Galleries, "The Big Horn Gallery," both in Cody, Wyoming. I know now I will never get into either no matter how good my graphites are. Most everyone here is well aware of this. Maybe later my pencils will sell, for I am still a "pencil artist" by heart, but if I need to do color, I WILL paint, no questions asked!

Remarkable-A fine work, that is wholly satifying, and lends the experience of a supreme example of a masterful photografer, prowess and talent captured at its peak.

The shadow tells me it's noon and that bison has been feeding pretty well so he's ready ..... Awesome is the word alright, old buddy,This is a perfectly rendered natural scene, the perpective is breathtaking and that buffalo seems like he noticed us and he isn't sure if he should do something about it or just go on brazing. I haven't seen your work in quite a while Denny, it now comes in color I see but it's still perfect in every way.
