Sonnenblumen (sunflowers)

Sunflowers are really amazing. They seem to me as they had caught a piece of the sun with their shining yellow. But these flowers I didn´t only paint cause of this. About 6 months ago I talked to an old woman who was in the concentration camp Auschwitz when she was a little girl. She talked a lot about this time and although there was a strange shining around her, I could feel a lot of sadness. This summer this woman died and some hours after I´d heard it, I started to paint these flowers. Without sketch and plan. I simply started. I still see this woman sitting here with her yellow shirt and her dark hair.I could imagine (a little) the dark background when she was a little girl, the dark background in her mind when she became adult and when she was old. And moreover she also loved sunflowers. That was one of the reasons to paint these flowers in 3 different phases in front of a black background. This painting is made by acrylics on a canvas and about 30 cm x 40 cm great.
