Orienteering is my second favorite activity after painting (sometimes the first). This was done for a team mate. Pastels on ash grey Ingres paper. 24*30 cm.
Whoa---nice! Amazing amound of work introduced here---the sign numbers are great! It's obvious you paid close attn. to the folds in the clothes and the way you've captured the 'action' of movement in the woods---great!

Excellent work with your pastels. Cristina what is orienteering?
Artist Reply: Thank you :) Orienteering was born in northern Europe about one century ago. It consists in a run through an unknown terrain, usually a wood: at start you are given a map on which there are some red dots. At the center of each dot in the map there is a white/orange sign on the terrain (you can see one in the picture) with a(usually electronical) device that will witness you passed through that point. The choice of the fastest way to run from one point to next is entirely up to you. In the end the faster athlet to finish the "tour" wins. I love this sport because it doesnt consist only in dumb running, but you need to use your head as well :)
You,ve done a great job here, especially with the trees and the clothing. I had no idea that there were actual competitions in orienteering. I'm going to check out the local club in Raleigh NC. Thanks:)
