Ming Sha Shan - Singing Sand Mountain

From atop a sand dune in Ming Sha Shan of Dun Huang, China I used a telephoto lens to isolate the detail of shadow and light some time after sunrise. Minolta 801si alpha, 300mm lens, Fujichrome Velvia, no filter, colour slightly altered to emphasize the monochromatic appearance of the light. Copyright Peter Skov.

Wow - what an awesome capture of contrasting light and texture. Simply beautiful Peter!

Artist Reply: Thanks, Tracy. I wish I had more photos such as this from that place but I only got two I was really happy with and this was the best one. I guess I have to go back someday.

This is fantastic Peter!!!

Artist Reply: Thanks Bev. I appreciate the comments. I thought it was pretty incredible myself. Looking through the viewfinder can be the most exciting thing about photography. That and seeing what you saw is what came out on the final image.

I totally agree with John...this IS Time Life material...AND National Geographic!!

This is amazing. What cracks me up is that there are photos like this at AW that never get in the Top 10 ratings, yet goofy candid shots of cats make it to the number one spot. This is Time Life quality work. you are a real pro.

Poetic and sensual photo. I like a lot.

Artist Reply: Sand dunes sometimes are rather sensual. There's a great shot by Ann Zwinger that looks like a woman's naval.

Artist Reply: Thanks. I waited almost 12 years to find sand dunes like that.
