This is a painting of the Saxon Goddess Erce, or Nerthus, who is the Goddess of fertility and of the earth. The ring along the edge was inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha and contains Anglo-Saxon runes which spell out 'Earthen Mother', a phrase taken from a famous Anglo-Saxon fertility charm. People have requested cards (kind of, congratulations on your pregnany type cards) so here they are: http://www.cafepress.com/erce.23076591 The original is on sale for $300, or you can purchase prints from http://www.cafepress.com/erce :)

Beautiful, I love everything in this piece, from the flowy dress and hair to the look on her face to the border turning into a branch. Awesome.Nancy Costley 01 Jun 2005
