i first sketched this in pencil, then scanned it into photoshop and painted it, then i added a sepia tone and frame in ulead...

She is beautiful! OK, picture a long metal wire (a little thicker than a coat hanger) bent into a long, thin heart shape. The two ends are pushed into a hole that's drilled into a 6" handle. The ends are held in just by the tension. She's outside beating the thin, ornate patterned, wool rug, which is hung over a clothesline, with this "rug beater". There were no vacuums in those days. Hubby comes home and hands her a tiny bouquette of flowers for doing such a good job! Ha! What a life!
