When I look at this face it reminds of a Greek Minoan gold mask. If you have ever seen a picture of this well known artifact you would know what I mean. Perhaps this is some inspiration here?

Artist Reply: Though I am familiar with the mask you mentioned, and I am a fan of the Minoan culture, it was not in my awareness at the time of the drawing. The model has strong facial features with a historical touch to them. I've painted him also in the style of Roman sarcophagi faces. But this drawing marks for me the first time I truly saw in a new way. The light hit him just the right way on that day, and I've been looking at things differently ever since.
