Holy Man oil, on 12 by 9 inch archival canvas panel, was finished December 30, 2004. It is the ninth painting in my series titled Unforgettable. Often identified by the turquoise they wear, Navajo medicine men are healers of the soul as much as of the body. Unlike western medicine, which tends to treat illness apart from the spiritual, Navajo medicine often treats illness as a symptom of a spiritual malady, and believes that turquoise is very useful in promoting health and happiness. The gathering clouds allude to the mans ability to summon the power of the creator in restoring balance and health to the afflicted, and the vent in the elbow of his shirt leaves no room for doubt that he is, indeed, a holy man! © 2004 John Watt Artist retains all copyrights and rights to any reproduction.

John, I am overwhelmed by joy and sadness, looking at your works. Joy that you have captured and brought to life an earlier simpler time with such mastery of the brush, and sadness for the story they tell. For me, that conflict of emotion is what makes your art and your family story great. Keep the oils flowing, man!jennifer blenkinsopp 21 May 2005
