smile captured beautifully !! Just adding to Carl's suggestion, besides the hair light, a reflector (from left) would get rid of the harsh shadows...lighting can make the difference from a photograph being a passport picture to a potrait!!

Nice portrait, captures the joy of the subject. I'd suggest that you make sure the subject combs her hair first so that all of it is flowing consistently. Nice contrast between the strong blacks, reds and whites in this photo. A 'hair-light' or rim light would help to define the texture of the hair a bit more. For instance coming from the left rear of the subject.

Artist Reply: thanks carl for looking at this. and thanks for the suggestion would try them out the next time i go to the studio. i got so caughtup in setting up i think neglected my basic composition [like the hair..] :p
