A gift my father gave me. My clarinet
Watercolor painting. 35CM X 50 CM.
The experiences of playing different musical instruments, in that period became the inspiration for creating a series of musical instruments.
It was drawn when I was a young student at Shenkar College, in my free time, not necessarily from schoolwork then, when most of my time was dedicated to drawing and designing.
At that time my playing time was mostly replaced by painting, and I found less and less time to play. Practicing painting, instead of playing music.
In this painting is the second clarinet I played. My first clarinet was used and my father played before me.
Of blessed memory.
The clarinet in the painting my father bought for me and brought it to me as a surprise.
(Summer 1980)
That afternoon, my father arrived home smiling with a clarinet in his hand, saying that he had decided to buy me a clarinet for a trip abroad with the Ramat Gan Youth Orchestra.
Exactly two days before the trip. Yes, he tried the clarinet in the store. I still remember the surprise, I was open-mouthed and overwhelmed with excitement. My father never played this clarinet, he only tried it before buying it.
I was brought up that there is no need to return gifts. And if so, before I left my parents' house for a rented apartment, I asked my father if I could take my musical instruments and he answered... what a question, they are yours!
A day before my father passed away, October 2023 I asked him to take his clarinet, which had been left open in a box in his room for several years.
He answered me... well... of course! Who else, if not you.
By the way, this was a rhetorical question, because he offered me to take his Clarinet a few years ago.
Such is my father, may his memory be blessed and his soul bundled in the bundle of life.
Although nowadays I rarely play and my reasons are with me, sometimes I recreate the past through it, and inspire my son, who loves to play so much, and the importance of playing for him is enormous.
With the modest me, my self-esteem is high... Usually, I don't ask to get "things", but simply get them. Surely this is part of "The Secret of the Magic in Me".
