The forest primeval exists today in the redwood rainforests of costal Northern California. The canyons only entrance is from a narrow outlet to the sea. Shear rock walls, nearly vertical, are festooned with ancient ferns. Water runoff trickles down from unseen heights and a clear shallow creek meanders underfoot. Colors are saturated, rich, and lush. Deep within the box canyon a fallen redwood stands sentinel over the precious fragility of this cross section in time. It could easily be sixty million years ago. The ten-month painting remains a color awakening into the realm of intuition and all subsequent works have been leaps of faith grounded in awareness.
