This is an experiment in the balance of complimentary colors. As orange turns to yellow the blue becomes more violet so the image as a whole inspires a calming sensation. I had pneumonia at the time I painted this. Bored at home, but unable to sit for long periods, I worked this in a series of 20 to 30 minute sessions. It was the featured work in Opening Minds, an annual show at San Luis Obispo Art Center and was a cover image for the local Focus Magazine.
