The expression a 'bald-faced lie' comes from in the late 1600s and actually meant a 'bare-faced' lie. This was back when 'bare' meant brazen boldness, and when most men were sporting beards and whiskers. Grooming styles have changed but bold or brazen still succeeds as liars seek votes of confidence to stay in office.
