We have always enjoyed visiting Galena, Illinois. We find the shops, galleries, and the many old brick buildings housing them very appealing. However, not until our most recent visit had we paid much attention to the unique door handles and locks that you encounter when entering these establishments. I began taking photographs of the door handles as we walked around town. There is quite a variety to be found. Some are very ornate, but uniquely so, and some are rather plain. This is a colored pencil painting based on a photograph of one of the more ornate handles. The painting is entitled "Look Beyond the Door". This piece is done on museum quality Grafix drafting film in a realistic style using Farber-Castell Polychromos and KOH-I-NOOR pencils. The size of the artwork is 11 X 14 inches.
