This piece is a still life that I set up that focuses on one of my favorite wines. I love the wine and I also love the name. I chose to emphasize the apothecary aspect and included old fashioned measure weights, test tubes, and an old style chemical bottle. I tried to render the shadowing to suggest a darker area of perhaps a laboratory of some sort. I don't really feel that I acheived this exact look, but I am pleased with the lighting effects. As always, I focus on detail. This piece was done on Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils. Its dimensions are 12 inches X 18 inches. I hope that you find this piece pleasing. Enjoy a fine wine, if not the chemistry behind it!

I've found a lot of amazing pieces in your gallery, Will, but I believe this one is my absolute favourite. It's excellent - the details, the composition, the colours, and just the overall mood of the drawing, are exquisite.

Artist Reply: Ida: Thank you so much for such lovely comments about my work. I do enjoy setting up and doing still life pieces. The colors did turn out nice...but I'm not always sure that they will look as nice as I visualize them in my mind. I'm glad that this piece speaks to you. Thank you again for taking your time to look and to comment. Have a very good day. Best regards, Will

Great Will, splendid details and reflections, I see you don't shrink difficult subjects and succeed. You are lucky not to be an amateur of French wines because, it seems, that 2012 was horrible

Artist Reply: Ivo: thanks so much for your very generous comments. As you know, I do like detail and I'm glad that this still life turned out as it did. I enjoyed doing it and playing with the reflections and the lighting. Have a very good upcoming weekend. Best regards, Will
