This is a little different than some of my more recent works - a little stranger, a little darker.... It actually features an older character of mine - "The Alchemist". This piece has heavy alchemy overtones, with diagrams and writings from ancient alchemical texts and archaic scientific and occult books. The Alchemist appears in this painting wearing a "Plague Doctor" mask (the long-nosed mask worn by doctors during the Bubonic Plague which ravaged Europe in the middle ages) and a dark cloak and hat. He is shown in his laboratory surrounded with the tools of his trade. The detail in this painting is truly astounding - it can only really be appreciated in person, with so many tiny diagrams and written fragments - all sorts of hidden things, hehe. 12"x16" acrylic painting on canvas.
