Artist comment: "This pastel painting on Canson Mi-teintes textured paper, is another in my 'clam digging' series. My routine is to sketch the composition, taking care to create good design and balance. I begin at the top, painting the background, sky, water, wave and beach, leaving the subject (and the reflections) blank. When I am satisfied with color and value, I complete background details. The 'icing on the cake' is the figures. The bright garments and subtle reflections are carefully rendered. Faces and hands are completed. I give the painting a final check and then sign it!"
