Beautiful still life ! Very successful use of colors !

Alan Berkman 22 May 2016

I'll have a glass...or two, three! Very realistic. What are Prismacolor Verithin pencils?

Artist Reply: Alan: If I could, I would gladly buy you a glass or two! Prismacolor makes a thin, harder lead version of their colored pencils. The hardness and thin quality of the Verithin pencils allows more detail work to be included in my pieces. I also use the soft Premier Prismacolor pencils, but find the Verithin very useful for my style. Have a great week. Best regards, Will

Hi Will, very impressive! Actually, it's one of MY favorite wines as well! Thank you for commenting on my work. Now I'm off to look at the rest of your work!

Artist Reply: Michele: thanks so much! We still drink Menage, but actually now our favorite is Apothic Red and Apothic Dark. I've done a couple pieces celebrating the Apothic Red. I guess that when we find a wine that we enjoy, I paint it and drink it! Best regards, Will

Kuliga Wiggan 06 Mar 2015

Johnnie Jumper III 29 Jan 2015

my pieces called my self, growing up cowboy, blossom are all pencel. not as good as yours though and my piece called sailing is melted Crayola crayons. You have given me a great idea though. Im going tomorrow and get me some pencils and paper. I am taking up drawing again.

Artist Reply: Johnnie: thank you very much! Your comments are very generous. Your pieces are very nice. Don't put yourself down. I'm glad that you are determined to do more pencil work. Colored pencils don't seem to get the respect that they are due. The more folks we can get to embrace their use, the more art lovers will realize the potential of colored pencils as a real fine art medium. Thanks again and get those pencils today. Best regard, Will

Gillian Roberts 31 Oct 2014

You have a vary impressive body of work here. I love the detail, congratulations.

Artist Reply: Gillian: thanks so much for your very generous comments. I am detailed oriented. I think that this comes from 31 years as a university biology professor. I taught gross anatomy, human physiology, and genetics. Detail was my middle name and I believe that this carries over to my art. Not a bad thing. I'm glad that you also find this aspect interesting. Thanks for taking time to view my work. Have a great weekend. Best regards, Will

Linda Bickston 28 Oct 2014

This is amazing. Your work is beautiful.

Artist Reply: Linda: thank you so much for taking time to view and comment on my work. I'm a retired university biology professor and self-taught artist. I always devoted a bit of time to my art, but I wish that I had given it more attention during my 31 years of teaching. By the way, I use Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film as a surface. I think that you too may like this surface. Thanks again and best regards, Will

Gerard Johnson II 23 Oct 2014

Carliss Mora 10 Oct 2014

Super color pencils, Will. I love Prismacolor pencils myself, but I don't know how to use them with the skills you have. Bravo!!!!

Artist Reply: Carliss: thank you so much for your very generous comments. They are very much appreciated. Prismacolor pencils are so nice. I'd like to take full credit for the look of my work, but I believe that to some extent, the look of my work is due to my using Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film rather than paper. This surface is so great to work on. I order it from Dick Blick's. Try it and I'm sure that you to would love it. Best regards, Will

Anne Whiteway 05 Oct 2014

Will Your colour pencil work is a feast for the eyes, amazing artworks. I am interested try the polyester film , I have done some using prismacolor pencils but only on Bristol board.

Artist Reply: Jennifer: thank you for your very generous comments. I do have patience, but most of the credit for the outcome of my efforts is due to the Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film. It works so well with colored pencils. You can't apply very many layers of color to one side and in that way this surface is quite different from papers. However, you can add color to both sides to enhance or change colors as appropriate. I do a detailed drawing on the primary side in graphite, dab off the excess with a kneaded eraser, and then begin adding color. When I finish with the primary side, I turn over the piece and apply appropriate color on the back side. In this case, the application is less exact, as the detail is on the primary surface. I purchase the Dura-lar film from Dick Blick's. I use 9 x 12 sheets for most of my work, but the film also comes in 18 x 24 inch sheets. I believe I order this as Graphic polyester film. I use Prismacolor pencils and depend heavily on Verithin Prismacolor pencils. A very sharp point that is great for detail work. Once you try this film, I think you'll be sold. The feel as you apply larger areas of color is so very smooth. Like applying paint, almost. Hope that this info is of interest to you. Please let me know if you find it to your liking. Best regards, Will

Jane Cummings 11 Sep 2014

Will, the first drawing stopped me! Love it, and love this wine, too! Have you tried Apothic Red? Well done with the reflections!

Artist Reply: Jane: thank you so much for your lovely comments. They are very much appreciated. Yes, we have tried Apothic Red and it too is very good. We have now discovered Menage a Trois Midnight. Have you tried this? It is very smooth. Best regards, Will.

Mark Kokopelli Watkins 22 Aug 2014

Excellent work, Will! The image appears very life like and 3-D in nature! Mark

Artist Reply: Mark: thanks so much for your kind comment. I'd like to take all the credit, but to be honest, I think that the Dura-lar film surface has lots to do with the end result. Again, thanks and best regards, Will

Nira Dabush 20 Aug 2014

QUITE COOL. VERY UNIQUE COMPOSITION DEAR FRIEND. BRAVO!! SHALOM. CHEERS!!

Artist Reply: Nira: thank you so much for your kind comments. They are very much appreciated. The wine in my painting is a red blend. This is the kind of wine that we enjoy, no matter what brand name it has. This is one of the first paintings that I did on Dura-lar matte surfaced polyester film. Color was applied to both surfaces of the film. Hope that your day has gone well. Best regards, Will
