A Place for My Head

Theme: Id, Ego, SuperEgo. Media: Watercolor Size: 12x18 in. Time: about 40 hours I watch how the moon sits in the sky On a dark night shining with the light from the sun The sun doesn't give light to the moon Assuming the moon's going to owe it one It makes me think of how you act to me You do favors and then rapidly You just turn around and start asking me about Things you want back from me...... "A Place for my head" - Linkin Park According to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality, personality is composed of three elements. These three elements of personality--known as the id, the ego and the superego--work together to create complex human behaviors. In short version... The id is driven by the pleasure principle, which strives for immediate irrational gratification of all desires, wants, and needs. If these needs are not satisfied immediately, then id gets angry. Id doesn't care about anyone but it self. The superego holds all of our internalized moral standards and ideals that we acquire from both parents and society--our sense of right and wrong. The superego provides guidelines for making judgments, and provides a conscience. The ego is responsible for dealing with reality. Ego negotiates between id and superego. Id too strong = bound up in self-gratification and uncaring to others. Ego too strong = extremely rational and efficient, but cold, boring and distant. Superego too strong = feels guilty all the time, may even have an insufferably saintly personality. ********************************* Ok.... trying to put this spining in my head to words now...bleeeh.... Id= Moon. Ego= Earth. Superego=Sun. The moon takes the light from the sun. The sun gives light to the moon without ever asking for, or getting any in return. The moon is selfish, casting darkness onto the earth. The sun can be overpowering and harmful to the earth.... Id=Cold and Dark. Ego=Both. Superego=Warm and Bright (Colors) Id is represented by cold wintery colors of blue. Superego by warm summer colors like yellow. Ego is between both, like spring or autumn. Id=Water, Ego=Earth, Superego=Fire. The Earth need water to satisfy its needs, but too much can swallow up and drown it. Fire is powerful and needed for warmth and light on the earth, but if not controlled can overpower and destroy. Id=Evil(Devil) Ego=Human Superego=Good(Angel) Id and Superego being like the little Angel and Devil on you shoulder. Id trying to convince Ego to give in, while Superego gives you a guilt trip. I didn't want to make this literal with the obvious devil horns and angel wings routine that I've seen a million times, but it's basically the same concept but in my own version
