WOLF ROBE II

This "pencil" is "Chief Wolf Robe," a noble Cheyenne who was drawn using a photograph for reference taken by photographer, Frank A. Rinehart in 1898. This is the second of three pieces I am donating to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. They will be auctioned off on the 25th of September in Cody, Wyoming. The other two pieces will be larger obscure portrait of William F. Cody and "The Three Ubertis," which is posted here in my portfolio.

This is the second version I have done which has considerably more detail. This pencil piece is larger than I do most of my "Western Artwork." The overall size is 18" x 12". It is drawn on heavy weight, hot press Crescent Illustration Board. German made Faber-Castell Drawing Pencils were used. The majority of the "pencil" was done with a #6 lead, while the remainder was darkened with a #8 lead and compressed charcoal.

HIS HEART BEATS WITH THE UNEASY SYNCOPATION OF BLUES MUSIC, WITH A SLOW RYTHMIC DURGE AND THE UNBORN SOLDIERS WILL STAND UP FROM WITHIN AN FIGHT HIS BATTLE WITH MEDIOCRITY. HIS SOUL CRIED OUT FOR YOUR TO TELL HIS STORY AND BECAUSE YOU WERE MOVED TO CREATE A WORK OF ART OF HIM, HE HAS FOUND HIS VOICE WHICH WAS LOST IN THE WILDERNESS OF MANY PRESIDENTIAL ADMINISTRATIONS. HOPE FADES. LOVE LIVES ETERNALLY FOR GOD IS LOVE.

Excellent drawing..the peace medal on his clothes is a testimony to a great Chief he has been...Denny this drawing is very power-ful in it's effect and demand about American Indain history captured clearly and honorably....

Dawn Robinette 20 Nov 2004

The wisdom, nobility and pride that you captured in his eyes is outstanding. You must have lived a past life back then, because it's as if they were standing before you while you sketched them. Greatness beyond words. By far the best pencil work ever! A 10 seems too little to give.

absolutlely stunning Mr. Karcher! My husband believed that there was nothing I couldn't do with a pencil but your realism is one thing I still struggle for, but I have read through your tutorials and see myself improving in the very near future.

joan warburton 04 Sep 2004

You've captured the dignity in his face with such grace. You are showing a man standing tall. The pencil work is gorgeous, and the lines in his face tell the story of hardship and strenght.
