This "pencil" is "Chief Wolf
Robe," a noble Cheyenne
who was drawn using a
photograph for reference
taken by photographer,
Frank A. Rinehart in 1898.
This is the second of three
pieces I am donating to the
Buffalo Bill Historical
Center. They will be
auctioned off on the 25th of
September in Cody,
Wyoming. The other two
pieces will be larger
obscure portrait of William
F. Cody and "The Three
Ubertis," which is posted
here in my portfolio.
This is the second version I
have done which has
considerably more detail.
This pencil piece is larger
than I do most of my
"Western Artwork." The
overall size is 18" x 12". It is
drawn on heavy weight, hot
press Crescent Illustration
Board. German made
Faber-Castell Drawing
Pencils were used. The
majority of the "pencil" was
done with a #6 lead, while
the remainder was
darkened with a #8 lead
and compressed
charcoal.
