This beautiful killdeer laid four eggs next to the entrance of the new visitors center at Hagerman NWR. The area is protected from foot traffic by four-foot-tall construction fencing. She got up off the eggs and did the wounded wing distraction maneuver to draw attention away from the nest. I did not want to distress her further so left after taking a few shots. I was surprised at this reaction since there was so much activity nearby ever since the nest was chosen.
