Heron (Eons)

October 2011 Visual: Digital Painting Neolithic cultures viewed water-birds as representatives of creative Gods, sometimes as Gods themselves. Thriving in water, sky and on land these creatures were symbols of Cosmic Water- a fluid yet unchanging constant of life. The image is of the Great Blue Heron amidst a waving line and opposed dots- a pattern used by cultures 10,000 years ago to honor the Cosmic Water. Audio: Micro-Loop/ Percssion/ Bass/ Synths "Eons spring and flood from the expanded wing/ The quiet watch within all planes that defies all kings" The composition begins with a repetitive tone and rhythm that gradually sophisticates. The ensuing harmonics, polyrhythms, and melodic structure never divorce themselves from the impulse of the original loop. The regal Heron stands quiet, takes flight and dives- a metaphor for the eternal change and essential power of creation that no earthly ruler can suppress.
