Hester and the Owl

After a long hiatus of not painting my Hester character, I've finally gotten around too it. Quite frankly, it hasn't been just because I had been busy with college or work or anything like that, but I just had to do a lot of 'unlearning' of stuff that I did learn in college to get back to having the confidence to paint what I 'want' and 'like' to paint again. Let's just say my illustrative style was not very welcome in the 'fine art' classes.. which is sad because I think if one pays several $k to go to college to you should be there to grow and learn, and not be ripped to shreds. Anyhoo, boohoo sad story, back to Hester, my witchy fashionista. All of my older paintings of her are far outdated, and I've incorporated a few new painting techniques into this painting, and I hope you enjoy it. :) I'll admit, she is a bit 'fluffy' of a character considering she is a witch (not in size but in subject), but she is inspired by a lot of the cartoons I watched growing up as a child, like Rainbow Bright, She-Ra, Sailor Moon, and Lovely Lady Locks. So, I hope to capture a sense of the 80's early 90's children's story-telling type aura in my images of Hester. The Persian in the image is a portrait of my long lost beloved underbite-smoosh faced boogie bear, Pluma. Wherever you are, I hope you are having the time of your life. <3
