On two seperate occasions I have caught sparrows bare handed much like you would catch a ball. They flew close enough to me that I was able to reach out and grab them in flight. I was young enough at the time when I caught the first one, I offered it to a neighbor next door. She had a parakeet in a fairly large cage. I thought it would be a great addition. The neighbor turned down my offer so, I stroked the top of its head and opened my hand. It stood on my palm for a moment blinking in disbelief and then flew away.
