In this myth Heracles is given the task to acquire the girdle of Hippolyte, queen of the amazons. The artists portrays Heracles as a sculpture, in which he is able to steal the girdle in an inconspicuous way. In the background we see the amazons in a state of disorder, searching for the girdle.
