They used to say lightning rods were a great protector of homes. Then they decided they were a wasted investment because lightning strikes are random. Now, almost a 150 years after the first sales of lightning rods, there are a couple of companies expecting to profit from installing them. It would be a good idea to check with your local weather station regarding lightning strikes in your area. Doppler radar shows the areas affected by lightning during a storm and counts the number of strikes hitting ground.
