Lighthouse of Alexandria

This is without a doubt my most favorite piece that is based on an actual building rather than mythology or a religious temple. Let me give you a little bit of history on the Lighthouse of Alexandria. The Lighthouse of Alexandria is one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World; it's also the most recent to have been built, having been built during the reign of Ptolemy I of Egypt. The lighthouse was commissioned in 290 B.C. and completed about 20 years later due to its complexity. It was so well built that it was still standing in the early 14th century until a series of earthquakes demolished it and sent it into the adjoining sea. This is my rendition of it; originally it had a statue of Poseidon on the top since it was built during the rule of a Ptolemy who was Greek but I think the Egyptians would have preferred something more along their own beliefs which is why I changed it to an Ankh.
