Sarah

Sarah is five years old and was deep in concentration while modelling for her painting. She really didn't want to model a long time, so the sitting was short, and the painting is still in the early stages of completion. It captured her so well, I left it in that stage.

Carolyn , this is fantastic, are you self taught?

Artist Reply: I appreciate your kind comment. No, I have a BFA from CMU, but learned portraiture through a series of workshops with Daniel E. Greene, Peggy Baumgaertner, Roberta Carter Clark and others. The art schools in my time were celebrating Abstraction, but I learned about drawing, color, shape and pattern even then. We all have to paint many paintings through time to learn to do it well. I'm still learning!
