This heron was posing just across the burn from us in The Pentands yesterday morning.

Beautiful capture Elaine... I found one of these one day covered in thick oil, I called the RSPCA, when he arrived he said I should have been careful as the bird would see my eye and try to peck it out as it thought it was a fish...M Smith 26 May 2011

how wonderful to see these birds,this is an outstanding closeup capture,I am seeing ducks and geese here now,two mallards flew up from a small pond while on my hike yesterday,I need a better camera with a good telephoto lens to get them,still nice to see.
