Lotus carries with it a Buddhist philosophy. Be Of the world NOT in the world. Though a lotus grows from the muddy marshes, it blooms above the surface of the muddy water much like the enlightened mind that got rid of human desires, wants and greed. This painting is one of violent motion in the calm still water. The flower is swayed from side to side but like a strong and determined spirit it depends on its roots in muddy waters. I painted this piece with strange thoughts. The mind is a difficult thing to control.
