St. Augustine Church, Cane River, Louisiana

The St. Augustine Church was built by Augustin Metroyer on the banks of the Cane River. He was a "homme de couleur libre" (free man of color), son of Marie Therese Coin-Coin, and an owner of the Melrose Plantation and multiple slaves. The Creole culture of the Cane River area is unique in Louisiana and the United States. This painting was donated for an auction benefiting the River Oaks Arts Center and fetched a good price.

A wonderful work, David! As all of yours , it leaves a lasting impression. I found Nelly's comments interesting.... I have donated many works for many good causes. I will continue to think on this topic.

Nice Foreground...it seems to have the effects of steps leading Toward the Church...more like Stories,in a Book, filling the Bindings.I like the effects of the trees...A Great Background!

Beautiful and great work again, David! And happy it got a good price!!! told you I never donate a work, but give 30% or more of the real price...when it has been sold in an auction. Why should artists just donate the total work? No other professional group is doing that....
