JACK RED CLOUD

This is a "pencil" of "Jack Red Cloud," the Son of the renowned Chief Red Cloud. Jack Red Cloud was an Oglala chief and an esteemed warrior and orator. A band of the Lakota or Teton Sioux tribe, the Oglala inhabited the North American Plains and Prairies region west of the Missouri River, and were primarily hunters. The photo used for reference was taken by Edward Sheriff Curtis, circa 1890s.

The original is 7.25" x 9.75" overall. It is drawn on medium weight, hot press Crescent Illustration Board. German made Faber-Castell Drawing Pencils were used. The majority of the "pencil' was done with a #6 lead, while the remainder was darkened with a #8 lead. Total time to complete was almost 17 hours.

wow denny! WOW! this is SO excellent. again. beyond real. the natives used to be afraid a camera would capture their soul...they would have been afraid moreso of your skill if you'd been around in the day with a pencil! what a GREAT character this is as well. the detail in the zoomed view of the wrapping on the feathers is mind blowing! such long eyelashes he had too. this image is a blessing to study !! 10...x100 !!! GREAT!
