"Harvest" is a painting of a
young lady up near Dien Bien
Phu, in the Northwestern
corner of Vietnam. She is seen
harvesting the rice as we rode
past in May 2009 during
Orange Walk 2009. A funny
story that goes along with this
painting is that this girl and
several friends teasingly asked
us to join them in the harvest,
thinking that we were all "city-
folk," unaccustomed to manual
labor like this. Without missing
a beat, my wife Bao Anh was
among them in an instant,
tearing through stalks of rice
as if she'd been doing so all of
her life. As it turns out, she
has done such work during
most of her youth in Dong Hoi,
Vietnam. It was all great fun!
