I studied Fine Art at Birmingham College of Art Design and then became a teacher. I exhibit widely in craft shops and galleries in the Midlands. Before moving to Twyford I ran my own Studio workshop and gallery at Wilbarston in Northamptonshire. I am a founder member of the Twyford Guild of Artists.

Originally specialising in sculpture, my interest in textiles developed from a fascination with form and textural detail. I develop my subjects from my own photographs, sketches and watercolour paintings. Theimagery combines natural textures in landscapes and flower studies with an evocative use of colour and light. The batiks are worked on fine silk, a fabric which lends an iridescent quality to the work.

Batik derives from a Javanese word meaning point of light. Using a traditional wax resist method, hot wax is applied with a tjanting tool and the fabric is dipped in cold water dye, the processing being repeated many times, dyeing successively darker tones. The natural occurrence of cracking is an inherent feature of batik. In all, the characteristics of the media are controlled in a painterly manner, very different from the flat, decorative fabrics normally associated with batik.
