Elkin Cañas was born in 1974 in Colombia, but grew up in Venezuela, where he moved at the age of 3. Drawing was always part of his life, and discovered his passion for painting at a very young age. After had finished high school he studied graphic design at The Caracas Institute of Design, followed by the art school of his home city, where he attended for 2 years. Disappointed by the school’s extremely emphasis in modern art, and lack of traditional training and realist approach to painting, he left to study and work with the Italian painter and sculptor “Francesco Santoro” traveling with him between his studios in Milan-Italy and Valencia-Venezuela. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in his country, Colombia and Spain. His paintings have won awards in various salons and competitions. Elkin truly believes in the intense and honest observation of nature and study of the Old Masters and their methods, to create a strong basis on which an artist can build a solid work and career, contemporary, with the highest quality, timeless beauty and permanence for centuries.
Elkin Cañas nació en Colombia en 1974, pero creció en Venezuela, donde se trasladó junto a sus padres a la edad de 3 años. Dibujar fué siempre parte de su vida, y descubrió su pasión por la pintura a muy temprana edad. Despues de finalizar su bachillerato estudió diseño gráfico en el Instituto de Diseño de Caracas, y luego en la Escuela de Arte de su ciudad durante 2 años, decepcionado por el extremo enfasis en el arte moderno, y la falta de un entrenamiento tradicional y orientacion hacia la pintura realista, se retira para trabajar y estudiar con el pintor y escultor italiano "Francesco Santoro" con quien viaja a su taller en Milan-Italia. Ha participado en numerosas exposiciones grupales e individuales en su pais, ademas de Colombia y españa. Sus pinturas han ganado premios en varios salones y competencias. Elkin realmente cree en una intensa y honesta observación de la naturaleza y en el estudio de los Antiguos Maestros y sus métodos, para crear una base fuerte sobre la cual el artista pueda crear una obra y una carrera sólida, contemporánea, de la mas alta calidad, belleza atemporal y permanencia por siglos.
