Blake Peterson - Biography

Blake Peterson was born in Toronto and spent the late 1990s to early 2000’s as a Performance Artist, headlining over 40 events in clubs such as The El Mocambo, Lee’s Palace, and The Cameron House. His creative journey has taken him from much of the Canadian landscape and abroad, manifesting itself in various forms of expression, from performance poet, to painter, filmmaker and actor.

Blake’s visual art has been exhibited in several art galleries, mainly in Toronto and Montreal. His work belongs to collections all over North America as well as Europe and Australia. He is also author to several screenplays, three self-published volumes of poetry and the novel “Visions of Tessa” (2008). His recent short films include “Fractured” (2010) and “Zsuzsanna: A portrait of a reluctant angel” (2010).

Blake Peterson recently participated in the 9th annual Toronto art expo. He envisions his work as a constant exploration of form and colour, but more than that, it is a journey into the abstraction of how and what we see and feel, what moves us and cripples us and what makes us human. Preferring to work on wood because of the tragic and unknown journey it takes and because of its dense nature, he is always dealing with themes of isolation and loneliness through landscape as well as the human form. In the end, he is just painting beauty, how he sees beauty and what he finds beautiful.
