Simon Birtall is a UK artist and illustrator based in The Wirral in North West England. Simon paints in oils or acrylics on canvas in an Impressionistic technique. Building up colour in multiple layers to create vibrant optical mixes, Simon favours scenes with striking contrasts of light and shadow. A working artist since 1993, Simon has to date held 2 solo exhibitions of his landscape paintings in Liverpool and has also exhibited artwork in several galleries in Cornwall, where he lived for over 10 years. Having painted portraits sporadically over the years, in 2002 Simon introduced a portraits from photographs service, which immediately proved a success. Commissions for illustration work have been received from clients including NatWest Bank, BBC Worldwide, Random House, Hallmark and Carlton Cards and Simon's illustration work has featured on book covers, greetings cards, advertisements, magazines and food packaging.
