In this body of work (the oil pastels), I was thinking about the myths and legends of folktales. These are among some of the oldest works of mankind, passed down orally for centuries, and across countries, cultures, and continents. What makes them so timeless and why do we find many of the same universal themes cropping up again and again? While used often and embraced as a way of explaining the unknown, I wanted to explore the archetypes and protopatterns that we find in these characters. Are we supposed to fear them or idolize them? Are celebrities our modern gods?
