Linda Paul Studio is owned & operated by artist Linda Paul in beautiful Colorado

When asked ‘What is your favorite painting’, I always say, ‘the next one I am going to paint!”

When people ask me what style I paint, its a two part answer that does not fits neatly into any one existing category. My work is a combination of "chunky realism" and impressionist painting. I like to juxtapose sculpted bas-relief products of nature (the chunky part) against soft impressionist landscapes of their origins.

Artist's Inspiration: I am inspired by so many things! I especially like nature's produce combined with its origins. I live to travel , especially in France & Italy and many of my paintings are inspired there. I do not paint from photographs. Rather, I collect vignettes or pieces of many different things that I like, and then in my mind I will put them together into a painting.

Natural Pigments: The artist formulates & makes her own paint from fascinating natural pigments such as crushed malachite, slate, root of rose madder, and natural earth pigments hand-picked from quarries in France and Italy. She has recently discovered and is using several new minerals from the Rocky Mountains which have not been previously used in painting. Linda Paul has received a grant from the Puffin Foundation to pursue her research into new American minerals.

Sculpted Bas-Relief: Works in the bas-relief series combine egg tempera painting with bas-relief sculpture. The works are incredibly textural and engage the viewer in a tactile as well as a visual experience. Her secret plaster recipe is applied to a cradled board, then each element is individually sculpted in relief of up to ½”. When the sculpting is finished, the egg tempera painting begins.
