Self Portrait

I live in a rural community in south Mississippi about thirty miles north of the gulf. When I say rural, we put the capital in "R". I live at the edge of a 35,000 acre natural hardwood forrest and swamp along the Pascagoula River. This is where I developed my love for wildlife. I have always had a love for art. I could never find a medium that I enjoyed working with. A Great friend of mine who was an art teacher at the local high school ask me to do a project for him using a scroll saw. He gave me an old saw he had and a hand drawn pattern to cut from wood. The rest is history. For over thirty years now I have been cutting pictures in wood and developing a technique to make the cuttings come to life. It was very difficult in the begining making sketches on paper and transfering them to the wood. But alas, the age of computers began and it opened up another world of opportunities to produce patterns. All my work is done by hand. I do not use lasers or other types of equipment. The only electric instrument is my saw and the drill that drills the holes where the saw blade have to fit. I have my portraits hanging in many homes across the world, in private collections, city halls, public libraries and museums. I also am published in Creative Woodworks and Scroll saw woodworking magazines. My web site is for the hobbist to purchase patterns. I love to develop cuttings of other artist work so that they might have it hanging next to the original piece that they did. One of my best friends, Sherri Kostura has let me develop a cutting from two of her wonderful drawings.
