Venus is unaware of the Satyr stalking her, enchanted perhaps by her blonde hair.
adapted from: "Venus Frigida" by Pieter Paul Rubens
"Venus"- from a photograph by Alfred Cheney Johnston
Image is painted on a stained wood panel, 63 x 40 x 2 cm.
Great artwork! This reminds me of a statue-group from antiquity, which features the goddess Venus/Aphrodite holding her sandal as a weapon against the advances of a Satyr (maybe Pan himself) with the help of Cupid/Eros, who tries to fend off the cloven-footed fella. Have you seen those statues? Anyhow; well painted!
