A few years ago a dear friend asked that instead of buying him a Christmas gift that I create a piece of art for his home. I was thrilled with the prospect. It was quickly decided that I would use something from his house as the basis for this piece. At this point, most of my creations were very much along the lines of “functional” art. One day he appeared with an original storm window from his Victorian style home. With no other instructions he asked that the window be incorporated into the piece. Little did I realize that this piece would end up being so much more than a special gift.

Various types of glass, acrylics, and everyday found objects all set in resin have become the paint on my pallet. In what would be considered Mixed-Media Mosaics, I’ve found my home. I would be hard pressed to tell you when I began my creative journey. I don’t remember a time when I was not trying various means to express my view of life. I am self taught in most areas and have explored a little of everything from traditional painting to welding. I believe my background in photography has also strongly influenced my work.

I am fascinated by light and color and the different depths that they can bring to a piece. To take uninteresting and practical pieces of day to day life and create the glittering diamonds in the foam of a wave from a piece of a broken car window, brings me great joy. As I have watched others look at my work I realize that I am not alone in being unable to resist touching them, to feel that expression. So smooth, and cool, yet in some places sharp and warm.

Having been born and raised in northeastern Illinois, tucked along the shore of Lake Michigan between Chicago and Milwaukee, I continue to be influenced by all that this area has to offer. Walks along the beach or a Christmas shopping trip on Michigan Avenue never fail to provide me with a never ending supply of snapshots of the world and the beauty that I see within it.
