At age 15, I applied to the Cooper Institute of Art, and was accepted. However, my mother objected stating " That artists starve to death." But I continued drawing, painting, watching what nature had to reveal to me. It wasn't until my children became adults that I seriously took up the brush again. And, it was in the 1990's that I discovered the art of silk painting. At first it was most difficult. I had little control over what the french dyes would do once I applied them to the silk. Then, with the steaming process, which sets the dyes deep into the silk fibers, I had even less control as to how the final art work would look. But, that's the mystery, the adventure. It's like spirit takes control and does what it pleases. And so far, I have been pleased. I also design silk scarves, and silk pillows. And, dabble in acrylics, oils, and water colors. I enjoy so much, when others are pleased with what I have created.
