In the later '60s I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin: the first song I ever remember hearing is Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools." I grew up on a hog farm in the southwestern part of Wisconsin. I love living in the country (except in winter); landscapes and seasons continue to inform my work and probably always will. Music, a sense of place and atmosphere, smells, particular events, memories, dreams, even particular objects are some of the things that spark my new work.
In 1985 I went to Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; in 1989, graduated with a B.A. in Art and English. I then spent the next eleven years working in the print industry, as a temporary office worker, and executive-assistant coffee-fetcher to pay college loans. In 2000 my best friend Michael and I moved to the San Francisco area. By this time I realized that I missed art terribly, and I had the opportunity to pursue it again. After a year of practicing I applied to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and graduated with a Master's Degree in Traditional Illustration in 2005.
Now I'm seeking work, to create illustrations for books, magazines, websites, posters, and the like. My work in traditional media (pencil, watercolor, and pastel), sometimes combined with digital processes, is unique and detailed.
Clients can expect a collaborative, positive, and detail-oriented person when they hire me for a project. I always follow through and do everything I can to make a project a success.
