Wow..it's been a long while since I "blogged". I am happy to report that this has been a more productive year. I have completed 3 pencil drawings and one was a commission! whoot whoot! and I have one oil painting almost finished and two plus on the go! I am also working on an old commission from several years back for a relative! I needed to push myself but now that I am back in the groove it's going so much better! and I am learning...constantly learning about my art and myself! Feels good to be back!

wellllll..here it is another week..and still I haven't done ANYTHING productive..I am eons behind in commission work..( word of warning!!! if you are a born procrastinator and not very well disciplined, do not attempt or accept commissions..you will only embarrass yourself and frustrate your clients..take it from an expert!) I need to get past the wish I can to the know I can..akin to the little train..BIG SIGH! How do you go about motivating yourself? I am a mother to 4, with 3 at home; I work Fulltime, and I have a bf who lives in his own apartment..so I find my time is so limited, and there is always something else to do; meals, dishes, laundry, picking up after everyone, nagging at everyone, ( which then throws off ones mood and out the window creativity!) plus groceries, bill-paying, Drs appts, dentist appts, etc etc...somedays I am so overwhelmed that NOTHING gets done..and I escape onto my computer..with facebook and artwanted....sighh again....

People often ask me: " How long does it take to do that?" For example, Palmerston Rail Yards took 3 mo's to pt and 6 mo's of planning. When I say this they inevitably say "well not full time of course? This is a trick question, because as most artists know, a piece of art takes as long as it takes to paint, draw, sculpt, create, sing, dance, etc, etc,...Sometimes this means working until the wee hours of the morning...or getting up at the wee hours of the morning...foregoing dishes and housework as the creative urges course through you...maybe stopping long enough to throw some food to the masses..ie children, spouse, partner, family member etc...sometimes living off coffee, and cigs...whatever your vices may be.... In other words, when I am in a creative spell, that is all I dream of, do, think, breath, feel...It IS all-consuming... So..in answer to the question..what IS full-time to an artist? Certainly not in the context of Monday to Friday 9-5..but definately full-time around the clock.. Because as we all know, art does not start and end with the product..it is a process of creativity that may start weeks, months and or sometimes years before the final piece is created...good or bad.
