Self Portrait

"Unser" (Syed Anser Ahmed) grew up in the Middle East, Pakistan, and the United States. His work revolves around Arabic calligraphy (various forms of writing). He has held three exhibitions till date. His first exhibition was showcased at the 2000 Undergraduate Research Conference held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he was a student. His subject was Sufism and he explored the topic through visual representation. His second exhibition, entitled xenoBABY, was also held in Lincoln, Nebraska. His third exhibition was held in Karachi, Pakistan in 2008.

Today, Unser continues his work on Sufism and Islam. In 2011 Unser came under pressure after the assassination of Salman Taseer, the Governor of Punjab. Salman Taseer spoke about the blasphemy laws in Pakistan. Unser pulled down many visuals from his website (www.artwanted.com/unser) deemed too controversial at that time.
